As 2008 begins, I have begun to look back on progress from this past year. It is incredible to think that, just six months ago, Project: Katrina Hope was little more than a passing thought. I wanted to do something to help the hurricane victims, but I hadn’t found a solid way to direct my energy. Now, as a new year rolls in, I am inspired by the people who have turned this crazy thought into a concrete reality.
The most immediate development of which I am proud is the creation and delivery of the shirts. One of the Project: Katrina Hope insiders approached me in August with rough sketches for a shirt to raise money. After a few consultations and design revisions, we now have t-shirts to promote the organization and our mission. You can order one (or 10) through the “How to Help” tab, and all of the proceeds go directly to Project: Katrina Hope.
I am grateful to be entering this year with such a solid base of volunteers for the organization. In less than three months, we will spend an intensive week in New Orleans, followed by two more weeks in May and June. The stories of Katrina survivors and those who are providing them hope will soon come to life. With help from generous individuals, schools, and religious groups, we have been steadily working toward our goal to fund the documentary, and we are looking to get even more people involved in the next year, especially through financial support.
I am hopeful that 2008 will be a time of renewed commitment and aid to those areas still rebuilding. It will surely be an exciting year for the organization, and I encourage you to join in our continuing progress. Best wishes for a safe new year from all of us at Project: Katrina Hope
With hope,
Gretchen
